Avoiding Injury in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

BJJ

Due to the the fact that some techniques in Jiu Jitsu require us to assume rounded postures, internally rotated shoulders, and flexed hip positions, it is important that we balance these positions out with the proper stretches. The best Jiu Jitsu practitioners are the ones that have the ability to spend the most time on the mat. Furthermore, for the every day Jiu Jitsu player, it is important that we maintain our health and happiness. So, as with all sports, body maintenance is required. It is important that for every 4-5 minutes we spend training Jiu Jitsu, we spend about one minute working on our joint, back, and body health. Below is a video that explains the techniques that our head Jiu Jitsu instructor has used to avoid injury through out his Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts career.

Not only were these stretches helpful in avoiding training injuries, a flexible body is a useful tool for any Jiu Jitsu practitioner, so they can also be used to help your over all performance in the Jiu Jitsu academy and in BJJ tournaments!
