They’ll build physical and mental strength within months.

what you child’s first class will look like

1. Pick a day and time. Schedule online. Pick a class that matches your kid's age group — 4-8 or 9-13.

2. Bring them in athletic clothes. T-shirt, shorts or sweats, no shoes on the mat so slides or crocs are convenient. Water bottle is recomended!

3. Arrive a couple minutes early where we will greet you at the door, introduce your child to their coach and help them get comfortable in class!

4. They train. You watch. Class is 55 minutes — for beginners they will do coordination drills, play grappling games, and learn basic positions. Your kid will be paired with another kid their age and experience level. You're welcome to sit and watch the whole thing. Most parents do.

5. Talk to our staff after class. They'll chat with you for a few minutes when class wraps and answer any questions you might have about the program. Ask anything you want about the class. No pressure either way, but if you want to come back for more, they can help you through the next steps.

why prism jiu jitsu?

Coach Nick is the head instructor and owner. He's been coaching kids for 11 years, has trained kids of every age and skill level, and still competes at a high level himself. The kids program isn't an afterthought here. Over half the students at Prism are kids.

Most kids martial arts programs assume kids can't handle real techniques. They water everything down and hand out belts for attendance. We don't. We teach kids real BJJ. The same techniques adults learn, just at their age and skill level. Kids rise to what you expect of them, and we expect a lot.

Here, your child will be pushed outside of their comfort zone, guided, and taught. At Prism, your kid will grow into someone who can focus, work hard, and do hard things.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We train safely. The 4-8 group does grappling games, which are playful partner drills where no one goes hard. The 9-13 group does some supervised live practice, but only after they've built foundation skills. Kids are always paired by age and experience, and coaches actively supervise every drill.

  • No experience or athletic background needed. Most of our kids walked in with neither. The class structure is designed for beginners, and kids of every shape, size, and energy level fit in.

  • Just water and themselves. T-shirt and shorts or sweats. No shoes on the mat so slides or crocs are convenient but not needed

  • That's common, and we expect it. Coach Nick will meet you and your kid at the door, walk through what's about to happen, and introduce them to the coach running their class. Most kids settle in within the first 5 to 10 minutes. If your kid would rather just watch their first class and try the next visit, that's fine too.

  • Two or three classes a week is enough to make real progress. Most kids start there. Once a week is fine too if that's all your schedule allows. The more they can train, the faster they will learn, but they will make progress no matter what.

  • That's fine! The free class exists so you can find out without committing money. If it's not the right fit, no hard feelings.
